Coaching Approach
Every skater can achieve their goals, whether it
is improving physical fitness, passing test levels,
doing well in competition, or preparing for the next
Olympics! Dedication to a precise and demanding sport
such as figure skating teaches discipline, organization,
mental focus, and good sportsmanship.
The most effect way to progress in
figure skating is to have regular, weekly instruction,
combined with a minimum of one other practice
session per week. Working with a private figure skating
coach allows for individualized motivation and proper
sequencing in learning skating skills. Private lessons
will also greatly accelerate the learning process.
One-on-one instruction is appropriate as:
-
a "jumpstart" for the true beginner
or very young (under 4) skater,
-
a "booster" to help pass a level in
class,
-
enhancement to group class
instruction for a skater with high natural ability,
-
a reward for a job well done, in
group skating class or off-ice accomplishments
-
actual physical support for the
skater with special needs
-
instruction for the high level
skater for competitions and tests (Freeskate
4 and up).
I will provide the background
information, technical instruction/correction, practice
session plans and motivation that will allow you or your
child to do her best. I share with my students my years
of athletic teaching experience, and knowledge of
childhood development, skating equipment, and body
mechanics.
